Playlist: To Have You Back von Tourist
Colours are all that renowned art directors Davy Evans and Jason Drew need to bring the track em>“To Have You Back” by Tourist (aka William Phillips) to life on screen. Black and white symbolize those passages of the song that are about the end of a love affair, while the neon bright colours towards the end of the video represent the couple’s new beginning. The hypnotic melody is heavy on the bass and punctuated by meaningful pauses, like a conversation in which two people are looking for the right words.
The video to the song is a masterpiece that makes you want to hang it on the wall, playing in an endless loop on an HD screen. The colours flow into each other like in a kaleidoscope, become objects, dissolve again, and change from austere and sad black-and-white to a fireworks of colours in all shades of the rainbow. William Phillips started to write his first songs when he was ten years old; when he was 25, he released his debut album “Tourist” (2012), which was praised for its danceability as well as its demanding, emotional sound. The producer and master of electronic music got his breakthrough with the track “Stay with Me”, which he co-wrote for Grammy winner Sam Smith. More about Tourist on Instagram.
