Art Dept: Wet x Qiu Yang – Songs from “Don’t You”

You want to quote punk icon Nina Hagen who once sang “I cannot decide yet, everything is so beautifully colorful here”, while your eye is drawn deeper and deeper into the light-flooded, brightly coloured and tidy imagery of Qiu Yang. No wonder the Beijing-born photographer and artist’s distinctive, lively style is currently in high demand, especially in the world of fashion.

Whether photo shoots for brands like Kenzo and COS or the magazines “Elle” “and” Glamour”-Yang, who commutes between New York and Amsterdam, hits all the right notes. And not only visually. His latest project, a fantastic short film, had him working with art director Hassan Rahim and US band Wet. The latter contributed songs and sounds of their album “Don’t You”, resulting in a mesmerizing clip with a wow factor. Not only for those who way back when watched the cult classic “Ghost” and could not get enough of hands shaping small heaps of clay on a potter’s wheel.
