Andrea Karg on … the Cashmere Clinic
“At Allude our mission is to ensure that each and every customer can enjoy our cashmere designs for years to come. The idea for the Cashmere Clinic came to my mind because I felt the need to clear up some prevalent misperceptions about cashmere – people always say how difficult and time-consuming it is to clean cashmere, how a myriad of things can go wrong, and how having your cashmere pieces dry-cleaned is the best, or even only, solution.
This last bit of rumour is the most tragic in my opinion, as aggressive chemicals can actually damage or destroy the protein in the wool’s fragile hairs and are a danger to sweaters and knitted dresses alike. Cashmere is in fact quite low-maintenance. A simple wash in a machine with reliable temperature adjustments is the best method to clean the wool. It is important, though, to stay precisely at 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit), which explains why washing your cashmere darlings by hand can be a risky business. As our body’s temperature is at around 37 degrees Celsius or 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit, we tend to use water that is too warm. The right kind of laundry detergent is another important factor in cashmere care, which is why we have put all our cashmere and cleaning knowledge into the development of our own Cashmere Care series. Give it a try and see (and feel!) the difference. After washing your cashmere treasures, don’t forget to gently lay them out and let them dry.”
Our new Allude Cashmere Clinic, located right in the heart of Munich at Christophstraße 6, offers a comprehensive and professional wellness treatment for your delicate darlings based on those steps. Each piece – no matter if from Allude or another brand – is washed, air-dried, briefly steamed and beautifully wrapped by our expertly trained staff before it is handed back to you. If your piece needs more than just a wash, don’t despair. “For me it was essential to also offer the almost forgotten handcraft of invisible mending for minor repairs”, explains Andrea Karg.
