Allude & Friends: Marcus Luft, Fashion Director at GALA
Marcus Luft is a man with (fashion) principles. As deputy editorial director and fashion director of the magazine Gala and co-editorial director of Gala Men he knows the industry like no other and is a sought-after and accomplished fashion writer and author of brand portraits. Since 2007 he has directed the fashion fortunes of the successful celebrity and lifestyle magazine with determination and a keen sense of new trends. Here he confidently answers our curious questions:
My first fashion memory:
Brown sandals that my mother used to bring me from Italy. They were super-stylish, but unfortunately, my classmates thought they were “girl’s shoes”.
I would describe my style as:
Classic with a modern twist.
My styling trick is:
Investing in a few statement pieces that you can easily combine with basics for a casual look.
The most important rule in my own style guide:
Men should not wear crazy shoes.
My favourite trend for the summer or winter:
I like mint tones in the summer and find it radically true that winter favours black.
Which is why I would wear these trends:
Mint for men only works in low doses. It’s been a while since I’ve worn all black, but I look forward to doing it again.
My favourite piece from the Allude Collection Fall/Winter 2015/2016:
Without question the off-white looks, especially the chiffon skirt with graphic applications – very modern and (!) wearable.
The best style advice I’ve ever received:
“Never follow fashion!” (Carine Roitfeld)
As a stylist/fashion editor I could not live without:
Well, what do you think? Fashion, of course!

The top three sites in my browser bookmarks:
The pages of our special issue that goes to press soon.
A song that always inspires me to dance:
I don’t dance, on principle.
